ECOWAS Achieves Seamless Migration of Linux Servers to Azure Cloud with Wragby Business Solutions and Technologies
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a regional organization comprising fifteen West African countries, embarked on a transformative journey to modernize its IT infrastructure. Collaborating with Wragby Business Solutions and Technologies, ECOWAS successfully migrated 44 virtual machines (VMs) to the Azure cloud, including 15 critical Redhat Linux VMs. This case study delves into the challenges overcome, solutions implemented, and the collaborative success achieved through this migration initiative.

Challenges
ECOWAS faced numerous challenges with its legacy on-premises infrastructure, including:

  • Limited scalability and flexibility inhibiting organizational growth.
  • High operational costs associated with hardware maintenance and upgrades.
  • Security vulnerabilities due to outdated software and limited disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Inefficient resource utilization leading to suboptimal performance.
  • The Solution Implemented
Recognizing the need for a robust cloud solution, ECOWAS partnered with Wragby Business Solutions and Technologies to migrate its infrastructure to Microsoft Azure. Leveraging Azure's comprehensive suite of services and Wragby's expertise, ECOWAS aimed to achieve scalability, security, and agility in its IT operations. The decision to migrate Red hat Linux VMs to Azure highlighted the flexibility and compatibility of the platform with diverse workloads. The migration process was meticulously planned and executed in collaboration with Wragby

  • Assessment: We conducted a thorough assessment of ECOWAS's existing infrastructure to identify dependencies and migration prerequisites.
  • Planning: A detailed migration plan was developed, outlining timelines, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Migration: We utilized Azure Site Recovery and Azure Migrate services to seamlessly migrate VMs to Azure, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Validation: Rigorous testing was conducted post-migration to validate functionality, performance, and data integrity.
  • Optimization: We worked closely with ECOWAS to optimize Azure resources, ensuring cost-efficiency and performance optimization.
  • Technical details: Total VMs Migrated were 44, Red hat Linux VMs Migrated were 15. Azure Services Utilized includes Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Migrate

    The Project Outcome
The migration to Azure, facilitated by Wragby Business Solutions and Technologies, delivered significant benefits to ECOWAS:

  • Scalability: ECOWAS gained the ability to scale resources dynamically to meet fluctuating demands.
  • Cost Savings: Reduced operational costs through the elimination of on-premises hardware maintenance and upgrades.
  • Security: Enhanced security posture with Azure's advanced threat protection and encryption capabilities.
  • Reliability: Improved system uptime and reliability, ensuring business continuity for ECOWAS operations.
  • Efficiency: Streamlined management and monitoring, resulting in increased IT efficiency and productivity.

  • Post-migration, ECOWAS experienced tangible results:

  • 30% reduction in infrastructure maintenance costs.
  • 50% improvement in system uptime and reliability.
  • 20% increase in overall IT efficiency.
  • Enhanced user satisfaction due to improved performance and responsiveness.
  • The migration journey provided valuable insights for both ECOWAS and Wragby Business Solutions and Technologies. The importance of collaboration and communication throughout the migration process, the value of continuous monitoring and optimization to maximize ROI and the significance of training and upskilling IT staff to effectively manage Azure resources were all key lessons learnt in the project.
